A nursing mother’s greatest preoccupation is to provide loving care for her baby. In the past, giving such care was invariably without social cost. Many nursing mothers were housewives. They spent long periods of quality time with their babies, assisted by members of the extended family. Babies then, had the luxury of being breast fed until they were completely weaned!
The same “timeless” devotion to babies by their nursing mothers is conspicuously missing in the experiences of the modern day nursing mother. Today, she is a career woman; a business woman; a clergy; or found in other sensitive roles that require her commitment to the attainment of stated goals
These economic, social and other demands on the modern day nursing mother make it impossible for her to spend longer periods caring for her baby. Just three months after delivery, she is expected to resume her role as before. She, like a lot others, cannot find the right kind of care she desires for her baby. The use of house helps, though not her best option, became the choice. These house helps are not trained to care for babies; besides, most of them are illiterate, and so do not comprehend the need for special care especially where hygiene is concerned.
The results of the use of these house helps have been the spate of cases of diarrhoea, malnutrition, disease infections, and in isolated cases death of babies.
It is in response to these challenges faced by working nursing mothers that The BabyNest was established in 2005.

We, the Directors and Management of The BabyNest pledge our commitment to the health, safety and security of all babies while they are inside our facilities under the agreed terms, fully discharged by the parent(s) concerned. We further assure all that within our control there will be zero fatality and baby theft inside our facility.
Meet our Management Team
Eben-Kay Hodo (Mr.)
MBA (Strategic Planning), B.Sc. Administration (Banking & Finance)
Graduate of the Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. He obtained his first degree from the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Legon, with a B.sc Administration Honours degree, (Banking and Finance.), 1990.
Mr. Hodo has held many Senior Management positions in his over 23 years’ professional career, having worked with local and Multinational companies with responsibilities covering the West Africa Sub Region. He has considerable experience in Sales, Marketing, Client Relationship Management and Business Development.
He has been providing strategic direction for The BabyNest since its inception twelve years ago as the Managing Director.
He is also an active player in the IT Business in Ghana with fourteen years industry experience in IT Marketing, Distribution and Business Development. He has a lot of international exposure.
Executive Director/Co-Founder of The BabyNest.
She is a Graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon, with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts; Economics and Sociology.
She has over 20 years’ professional experience in the IT industry having worked with the Multinational Company, NCR (GH) Limited since 1997. She rose through the ranks to become the Head of Marketing Department with direct responsibility for the company’s Financial Services in the area of ATM Sales and Marketing in Ghana.
Mrs. Hodo is currently the Executive Director – Operations at The BabyNest. She believes in The BabyNest Early Childhood Learning Centres Project, based on her immense demonstrable passion for professional child care imperatives and is totally committed to its growth. She has brought her wider International exposure to bear on the development of The BabyNest facilities giving it a true International outlook.
Executive Director/Co-Founder of The BabyNest
Awo is an Executive Director/Co-Founder of The BabyNest. Also a graduate of Ghana’s Premier University, she holds a Bachelors’ Degree honours in Linguistics and French.
Awo has had twelve years of rich and varied experience in Research and Public Relations. She is currently the Executive Director responsible for Administration at The BabyNest having been working in this capacity for the past eight years.
Awo has been contributing significantly towards the development and growth of The BabyNest through her fine public relations experiences and valuable thought leadership.
Sarah is the Administrator at the Legon facility of The Babynest. She joined The Babynest team in April 2015. Ms. Fixon-Owoo is a product of the University of Professional Studies and a graduate from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, United Kingdom.
Prior to joining The Babynest, Sarah had worked in various Management and Administrative positions in Ghana and the United Kingdom and brings to The Babynest relevant skills attained in those roles combined with her good interpersonal skills.
She has a proven marketing and customer service track record, with an interest in customer relationship and internal marketing.
Bernice Boakye Agyekum
Headteacher - Legon Facility
Mrs. Bernice Boakye Agyekum holds a B.ED in Early Childhood Education from the University of Education, Winneba. She also acquired her pre-school training in 2007 with the National Nursery Teachers Training Center where she obtained a certificate in Early Childhood Care and Development.
Bernice has three years teaching experience and two years’ experience in Monitoring and Evaluation. She first joined The BabyNest as a teacher in 2008 and has also worked with the United Nations Development Program as Monitoring and Evaluation assistant, a role that has shaped her professionally and sharpened her attention to details.
Mrs. Boakye Agyekum’s passion for children saw her coming back to The BabyNest; now as the Head Teacher at The BabyNest, University of Ghana, Legon.
Maame Afua Agyei
Administrator - Osu Facility
Mrs. Agyei is a Graduate of Psychology from the University of Cape Coast and also obtained a Diploma in Basic Education from the same University. She also has a certificate in Early Childhood Care from the National Nursery Teacher Training Centre (NNTTC).
She has worked previously as a Teacher at The BabyNest, Dansoman facility and as Assistant Academic Head for other pre-schools in Accra.
Mrs. Agyei has reasonable experience in Early Childhood Education and is currently the Administrator at The BabyNest, Osu, Accra.
The BabyNest is managed on a day to day basis by a team of well qualified, highly motivated and committed Early Childhood Development and Care professionals who share in the vision of The BabyNest. The team is led by Eben-Kay Hodo, the Managing Director.
Our teaching staff is comprised of highly motivated professionals with Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in Early Childhood Development from recognized Universities and other accredited institutions in Ghana and abroad. Their commitment to teaching and ensuring a professional care that the babies can hardly differentiate from that given them by their biological parents, is total and unflinching.
